In 2008 the Melissa Education Foundation’s Board of Directors met to discuss the possibility of creating an annual event to raise money and awareness of the foundation.  And from that meeting, “GIVE THEM WINGS” Casino Night was born.  A committee was formed to create an event that would be so enjoyable that attendees would ask, “When is the next one, I’ll be back!”  Expectations for the first annual event were simple:

1.Have a great time
2. Raise some money
3. Make sure everyone gets their money’s worth.

Needless to say, the “GIVE THEM WINGS” event was a huge success with the final tally at $35,000!  Of course, credit to the success of an event does not rest solely on the hard work of the board, the funding raising committee, the volunteers, (ten MISD teachers volunteered their Saturday night, to help where needed, to make sure everything ran smoothly) or to the attendees.

Generous support by individuals and businesses through donations, auction items, raffle baskets and sponsorships was greatly needed; the MEF was not disappointed. 

Time after time POGUE CONSTUCTION has proven their commitment to support education and community through various venues.  The Melissa Education Foundation would like to thank POGUE CONSTRUCTION for underwriting the first annual “GIVE THEM WINGS” casino night insuring a successful event that will continue to give back to the students and teachers of Melissa ISD for years to come.

October 10, 2009 is the Second Annual “GIVE THEM WINGS” Casino Night.  Tickets are limited and first-come, first-serve.  You are invited to participate in this rewarding and fun event that benefits Melissa students through scholarships to senior graduates and through grants to teachers for innovative classroom programs.
